On September 15th, Fairview Town Council passed a new bylaw to protect the community from the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings will be mandatory inside public spaces in the Town of Fairview when the active case count in the MD of Fairview is at 25 or more.

Fairview’s Mayor, Gordon MacLeod said the bylaw passed with a 4-3 vote for facial coverings. MacLeod voted against the new bylaw saying “I think the population needs to have their own say; but we as council need to support the issue, which I am going to do even though I was one of the people opposed to it.”

Businesses will have to put signage at their doors stating face coverings will be needed to enter their premises if the bylaw becomes active.

The Town of Fairview’s CAO, Daryl Greenhill commented on the issue of face coverings stating “Depending on your stance it’s all about safety of our community, and we need to have fairly high cases before the requirement to wear face masks in stores, and we haven’t come close to that number yet.”

The bylaw is not currently in effect, as of September 17th.

The community was very divided on the issue before it went to town council, you can find some of the comments made by clicking here.
