New Principal Appointed at Peace River’s Glenmary School

Peace River’s Glenmary Jr,/Sr. High School is getting a new principal for the 2017/18 school year.

David Amiot has been hired by Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD); He’ll succeed Dominique Jean, who’s held the job for the past school year.

According to HFCRD press release, Amiot brings a wealth of experience as a teacher, and principal, in elementary, Jr. High and Sr. High school levels. He currently serves as the Senior Manager with the Office of the Registrar at Alberta Education, where he’s responsible for investigating conduct and competency complaints. He also prosecutes cases against superintendents, principals and teachers.

“We are very excited to welcome David to Glenmary School, HFCRD and the Peace River community,” said HFCRD Superintendent Betty Turpin. “David’s experience is ideal for a large, academic, and well-rounded school like Glenmary.  We look forward to seeing the school continue to thrive under his leadership.”

Amiot’s diverse career experience also includes being a Provincial Achievement Test Examiner for Social Studies and English Language Arts, as well as a University of Alberta (UofA) Instructor and Facilitator who supported student teachers during their field experience placements. He also had some direct involvement in the development of a new Principal Leadership Quality Standard (PLQS) and a new Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard (SLQS) that are both targeted to become Ministerial Orders this fall.

On a personal level, Amiot successfully completed the Canadian Death Race in Grande Cache twice as part of a relay team in 2010 and 2011, and he enjoys weight and fitness training,

He is married to Mona, and has 18-month-old son named Deklan.
