Clarke is leaving the division after 24 years to take the same job with Prairie Rose School Division in the Medicine Hat area.

FVSD Board Chairperson Clark McAskile says they received a number of applications through nation-wide advertising.

“Mr. McMann was selected because of his demonstrated leadership qualities, his commitment to excellence in serving our students, as well as his familiarity with the division,” McAskile said in a news release.

Throughout the last 20 years, he’s been a teacher, vice-principal, principal, and a central office administrator in two different school systems. Most recently, he was FVSD’s Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning, a job he’s had since September 2012.

After being chosen, McMann says he’s honoured to be asked to serve as Superintendent.

“FVSD has an excellent reputation in all aspects of public education,” said McMann. “The significant diversity in students we serve, and the resulting need for alternative delivery of education, are viewed as opportunities in our division.

“I look forward to facing these challenges with our teachers and our students,” he continued. “I’ll continue to be an ambassador for the division itself.”

FVSD says McMann has a solid background of research & practice in educational leadership. He holds two Bachelor Degrees, one in Science and one in Education, and a Master’s Degree in Education, with specialization in Curriculum & Technology.
