From the Government of Alberta
Resources are currently being deployed by Alberta Wildfire to the Peace River Forest Area (PRFA) today. The PRFA is preparing for 100 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel and a 55-person incident team. They will be working to assist the Peace River Wildfire team with the fires near Peavine and McLennan.
The incident team, made up of U.S. wildland firefighters, will be stationed near Harmon Valley. The military will be at the Winagami Provincial Park, which has been closed for the summer because of the wildfires. Both of these areas will provide access to help fight the Kimiwan Complex fires.
Under the supervision of Alberta Wildfire, the military will help with wildfire suppression. The CAF will be providing personnel, resources, and basic firefighting roles; airlift resources for tasks such as evacuating isolated communities, and engineering support, including heavy equipment resources.
Alberta has also requested additional resources from Winnipeg’s Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, as well as agreements with the United States and Mexico.
Both the military and incident team are expected to be in place this weekend.
