No cannabis public consumption by law for the Town of Peace River

When cannabis is legalized on October 17th, the Town of Peace River will not have a bylaw regarding public consumption. At this time, they have decided to let 6 months pass to see if there are any problems or concerns that need addressing. For the time being, the town will be treating cannabis the same way the province treats smoking laws.

Mayor Tom Tarpey says that he and the council think the “citizens of Peace Rive, particularly those who are going to purchase cannabis, are going to be responsible and see it as a privilege and they’re not going to abuse that privilege.” Tarpey says that if public consumption becomes a problem then they will have open houses or a survey to get public feedback on what residents think a by law should look like.
