The Fairview Health Complex will be without local physician coverage in the emergency department starting October 5 at 7 a.m. to October 6 at 7 a.m.

The measure is temporary and Alberta Health Services is working with local residents to ensure they have access to the care they need during the time.

Nursing staff will stay on-site to provide triage and assessments as well as referring patients to emergency departments in surrounding communities.

Patients requiring urgent emergency medical care during this time are asked to call 911.

EMS calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities, including the Grimshaw/Berwyn and District Community Health Centre (58 km away), the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River (56 km) and the Peace River Community Health Centre (85 km).

Physician coverage will resume on October 6 at 7 a.m.
