The Northland School Division says at this time, it will not be participating in the piloting of the Alberta Government’s kindergarten to grade six draft curriculum.

The division made the announcement on its websites.

The Trending 55 Newsroom reached out to the division last week and did not receive a response.

“In addition, the Board of Trustees and Administration reviewed the draft content, outcomes, and measures proposed in the applicable subject areas, and discussed alignment with the vision, commitment, core values, and priorities of the Board,” reads the statement in part.

“The Board recognizes the importance of redesigning the curriculum for the benefit of student learning. The Indigenous perspectives and experiences that were included in the previous curriculum seem to be omitted.”

The Northland School Division is one of several in Alberta that have decided against testing the curriculum.

The division says it is encouraging parents to submit their thoughts on the draft proposal to the province, and you can do that by clicking here.
