An airline based in the Northwest Territories has interest in bringing scheduled passenger service to the Peace Region.
According to a briefing note to Peace River Town Council, Northwestern Air Owner, Brian Harrold and town Chief Administrative Officer, Christopher Parker spoke on February 21 and Harrold indicated he wants to bring the service to the Peace River Regional Airport.
However, the note goes on to say that due to pilot shortages, the Fort Smith based airline cannot offer the service at this time.
Peace River Mayor, Tom Tarpey says the town and Harrold are regularly in contact.
“We are in contact with Northwestern Air on a regular basis to see if they are interested in providing a service here in Peace River,” says Tarpey.
The note also stated that Northwestern Air is currently training three pilots and hopes to have sufficient crews by the end of May.
The Town and Northwestern Air plan to talk again at the end of March.
