Project funding has been approved by the CRTC for four funding applications made by ATG Arrow Technology Group Limited Partnership. $15,749,719 is the total awarded to Arrow to build and/or upgrade local infrastructure for fixed broadband internet access in five communities in northwestern Alberta.
Around 755 households in the Indigenous communities of Peerless Lake, Trout Lake, Garden River, John D’or Prairie and Fox Lake will soon benefit from increased internet access with higher download speeds of at least 50 megabits per second, upload speeds of at least 10 Mbps as well as unlimited data.
Arrow applied in four funding applications and total awarded are broke down into:
- $4,023,405 for the communities of Peerless Lake and Trout Lake.
- $997,072 for the community of Garden Creek.
- $4,309,297 for the community of John D’Or Prairie.
- $6,419,945 for the community of Fox Lake.
The community of Garden River was awarded the least amount from the CRTC Broadband Fund in the March 29, 2022 announcement as Arrow secured third-party funding for the particular project.
It is anticipated construction for most projects announced on March 29 will start in the second half of 2022 at the earliest.
The Broadband Fund to date has committed up to $206 million to improve broadband services for 170 communities, representing approximately 30,405 households across Canada.
