Peace River Chamber General Meeting

Peace River Mayor Tom Tarpey, along with Town CAO Chris Parker, joined the Peace River & District Chamber of Commerce for their general meeting on Wednesday, to present a draft of the Town’s 4 year Strategic Plan. Some of the Initiatives outlined included downtown revitalization, strengthening inter-municipal relations, encouraging economic development, safe / caring / clean neighborhoods and town infrastructure enhancement.

Tarpey noted the plan will hopefully be finalized by the end March, at which time it will be made available on the Town’s website.

During a question period that followed, there were some intense moments when an impassioned local business owner pressed town representatives over the transition of air ambulance providers and their involvement in the process.

Alberta Health Services awarded Can-West the contract to provide air ambulance services effective April 1, 2018, but, they have yet to be able to secure hanger space at the Airport. The current contract, held by Northern Air, expires March 31st.

Despite the transition date looming and several questions yet to be answered, Town representatives assured those on hand there will be no interruption in service.
