Peace River DMI Provides Update on Friday’s Explosion

Peace River’s Daishowa-Marubeni International (DMI) mill continues to assess the damage following Friday’s explosion.

A recovery boiler blew up due to a tube leak caused by a smelt-water reaction.

The Trending 55 Newsroom received several tips that indicated the potential of a long-term closure.

We were able to contact Amber Armstrong on Tuesday. She’s the Communications & Public Relations Superintendent for Peace River DMI.

Armstrong acknowledges there were concerns about a closure after the explosion, but adds that essentially, that’s all they are.

She says that despite the incident, their safety record has been exceptional since they first opened their doors 27 years ago.

Until the assessment is over, Armstrong says that DMI can not give a timeline on when the mill will reopen.
