The Peace River Fire Department will continue to act as a Medical First Responder (MFR) when the need arises. Town Council discussed the program last night at its latest council meeting. They received a letter from Alberta Health Services (AHS), which clarified the department will indeed be continuing as an MFR agency. Councillor Orren Ford says council said from the beginning the fire department would respond to any medical emergency as directed by AHS, and have added the MFR program into the Emergency Medical Services section of the town’s Level of Fire Service Policy. Ford says if the ambulance can’t get to a scene in a reasonable amount of time, the fire department will be paged. He adds when there is a life-threatening call, there is no question the fire department will respond immediately.
