It was a sad end to a case involving a lost 15-year-old boy in the Smoky River.
RCMP has recovered the boy’s body about two kilometres downstream from his last known sighting.
The boy was swimming with a group of people on July 28, 2017, when he pulled under by an undercurrent. The boy then came back up, but witnesses say that he was then carried down the river, and then went under again.
Mounties from Spirit River, Peace River, McLennan and Grande Prairie helped in the search, as well as Peace River Search & Rescue, as well as the Eaglesham Fire Department and an E Division Underwater Recovery Team from British Columbia.
Officers are not releasing the name of the victim. They are also extending condolences to the family, as well as to the community of Spirit River, where he is from.
