Peace Regional RCMP issue tickets after school bus signage disregarded

Peace River, Alta. – On April. 28, 2025, Peace Regional RCMP responded to a report from a school bus driver, after a driver had disregarded the Traffic Safety Act, and while the bus was stopped with the stop sign out to accommodate students exiting the bus, the driver passed the school bus.

Peace Regional RCMP were unable to initially locate the driver, however, through the course of the investigation, were able to obtain the license plate of the vehicle.  The registered owner of this vehicle received approximately $1500 in fines.

Learning to drive on our roads is more than just passing your drivers test, it includes following the rules of various traffic safety laws in Alberta, such as the Traffic Safety Act of Alberta, which includes exactly what traffic laws police enforce.

The lives of children are at risk when drivers disregard a school bus that is lawfully stopped, with the stop sign out and lights flashing.  Children are leaving the bus and crossing the street, and while they are taught to look both ways before crossing the road, they are also just children and rely heavily on motorists to do their part to follow the rules of the road.
