Peace Regional RCMP lay charges after proactive patrols of vacant homes
Peace River, Alta. – On Jan. 17, 2025, Peace Regional RCMP began patrols on vacant homes which have caused several reports of potential squatters and break and enters.
Around 11:00 P.M., members attended a home in the area of 101 Street in Peace River, and entered a home with the property representative’s approval.
1 male jumped out of the second story window, running westbound down the street.
Despite icy and extremely cold conditions, a foot chase continued until the male was eventually located near a business on 98 Street in Peace River.
Draper Nelson Laboucan (45), a resident of Peace River, was arrested for: Break and enter to a residence, resist police officer, theft of electricity, as well as warrants for break and enter, and failure to attend court.
Laboucan was brought before a Justice of the Peace, where he was released, with a court date of Jan. 20, 2025.
Peace Regional RCMP would like to remind community members of the risks involved with having a vacant home or property. These properties are very attractive to break in to, or for persons to attempt to take over and reside inside of. Simply closing curtains or having someone drive by to look at it once in a while is not a deterrence to criminals. Once they determine the home is vacant, it becomes very problematic for our local RCMP.
The Peace Regional RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the location of, or sightings of any suspicious behaviour at vacant homes in the community. Anyone with information in relation to these things are asked to please contact the Peace Regional RCMP at 780-624-6611 or your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8377 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
