Peace Regional RCMP lay charges in flight from police officer
Northern Sunrise County, Alta. – On Dec. 5, 2024, Peace Regional RCMP were patrolling in the area of Township Road 822 and Range Road 190 in the Peace Region, when a stolen vehicle fled from a traffic stop. RCMP located the vehicle shortly after and members of the Western Alberta Crime Reduction Unit assisted and engaged in a foot search for the vehicle occupants in a forested farm area.
Richard James William Frey (49), a resident of Northern Sunrise County was located and charged with:
- Alter, remove or obliterate a vehicle identification number on a motor vehicle
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Resist a Police Officer
- Fail to comply with release conditions
- Fraudulent concealment
- Warrant: Drive while unauthorized
- Warrant: Fail to comply with release conditions
- Warrant: Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
Cory John Zeller, a resident of Northern Sunrise County was located and charged with:
- Fail to comply with release conditions
- Flight from Police Officer
- Warrant: Assault on Police Officer x 2
- Warrant: Alter, remove or obliterate a vehicle identification number on a motor vehicle
- Warrant: Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
- Warrant: Flight from Police Officer
- Warrant: Fail to Comply with release conditions
Frey and Zeller were held for a Judicial Interim Hearing where they were both remanded with an upcoming court date of Dec. 23, 2024 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River, Alta.
