Gas prices in the Peace and Mackenzie Regions will be seeing an increase in the new year.
Alberta’s 13 cent per litre fuel tax, which had been suspended for all of 2023, will be partially reinstated at nine cents per litre on January 1.
In a statement issued yesterday, Alberta Finance Minister Nate Horner said possible fuel tax breaks for next year will be evaluated quarterly.
An update on possible savings will come before the end of March.
Minister Horner also said in his statement quote, “Alberta’s fuel tax is a predictable source of provincial revenue, helping to offset the volatility of other revenue sources. As a stable component of Alberta’s revenue mix, the fuel tax helps fund programs and services Albertans rely on while maintaining our significant tax advantage. The fuel tax relief program ensures we’re able to maintain strength in Alberta’s finances while continuing to support Albertans and Alberta businesses.”
Some gas prices in the region right now include $1.29 in Peace River and $1.54 in High Level.
