The Peace River School Division will have a new high school virtual learning program available for the 2021-2022 school year.

Board Chair Darren Kuester says this will help deliver quality programming in some of their smaller schools.

“When you get small classes where you only have two or three grade 12’s that want to take a 30 level course, it’s hard to justify standing a teacher in front of them. What we’ve done in the past is we’ve grouped them together with what we call blended learning where we’ve delivered from one school and students in other schools receive the programming.”

Kuester says the blended learning quote “worked to an extent” but this virtual learning program will be a more advanced version of that.

“This will be dedicated teachers that are going to be housed in our central operations in Grimshaw. They’re going to be teachers that are dedicated to teaching high school programming and they will deliver high school programming to anywhere across our division, including home schooling.”

Kuester adds that this will provide more flexibility for students in their schools.
