Five quilt art designs have been selected to transform normally boring utility boxes into beautiful masterpieces. Throughout the next few weeks, boxes in the west hill and north end areas will receive cosmetic wraps which have one of the five selected quilt art designs.

Chosen designs:

  • Poppies, created by Carole Gold
  • Sunkissed Blossoms, created by Shonna Lagace
  • Dotty Daisies, created by Lois Laurin
  • Hummingbird Flower, created by Nancy Ethier
  • Dragonflies, created by Christina Johnson

The beautification of utility boxes is not new to Peace River as many boxes in the downtown have been wrapped with paint style art.

“When we were doing our first round of utility boxes, we had quilt artists ask if they could submit [designs],” said Alisha Mody, Manager of Planning and development for the Town of Peace River. “we said no at that time because we didn’t want to mix quilts there. We though it was a great idea, so we had that in the back of our mind and decided that would be our way forward when we were done with the downtown.”

Quilt designs were submitted over the winter and a short list of 15 was voted on by the public. The top five are the first designs to be used and the remaining quilt art will be used for future utility box wraps.
