Attached photo is of the power line right of way currently energizing the Town. You can see the darker line is the protections that have begun being put in place as you can see some smoke starting up on the horizon.
June 1 2023 – Tomorrow is re-entry day beginning at 9am. We have a great deal of information available on our website www.rainbowlake.ca with things you should know and be looking out for as we come home.
We have crews ready to start moving out fridges/freezers. To get on the list please email admin@rainbowlake.ca or call 780-956-3934. There will be a lot of phone calls, so if possible, please use the email option so we can make sure we do not miss anyone.
We will have several gas fitters in Town assisting with pilot light relights. Once again, please email admin@rainbowlake.ca or call 780-956-3934 to get on the list. We will be operating on a first come, first served basis so please be patient as we try to make our way to everyone as quickly as possible.
The fire is still active outside of Town. When you return, do not leave Town, not even to the Trout Pond, the roots of the trees have been burned out and trees continue to come down. The Town and the Highway are the only safe places to be at the moment. You will see smoke columns appear, typically in early to late afternoon, this is normal. The Town has been secured and much of the fuel burned but there are many fuels remaining outside of Town that continue to flare up throughout the day. This will be the case for several weeks at least. If you do see smoke directly in Town, please call 911.
We do have one continuing concern with the fire approaching the power lines outside of Town threatening our power once again. Protections are being put in place and a great many resources have been dedicated to this task.
Please remember to bring groceries with you on your return. Choose items that do not require refrigeration or freezing as these appliances will be rotten. There is a limited supply of groceries here in Town so please be mindful of this fact and try to bring back food that will cover your family for several days.
Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at 9am. We will be having a welcome home BBQ at Devonian Park and have some information there for residents as well.
