Peace Regional RCMP cracking down on impaired drivers

Peace River, Alta. – Peace Regional RCMP having been on the road searching for impaired drivers to get off the road, to keep the community safe.

While RCMP are always on the lookout for impaired drivers and from Mar. 1, 2025, to Apr. 30, 2025, Peace Regional RCMP have taken 20 drivers off the road with Provincial Impaired Road Sanctions.

Community members are reminded there is no excuse to driving impaired, and that driving while impaired with drugs or alcohol, is dangerous, putting not only your life at risk, but the lives of others using our public spaces.  There are options in our community that are easily accessible, such as various taxi companies, friends and family, or, the classic old heel-toe express.

Did you know?  In Alberta, police have Mandatory Alcohol Screening as an on option for any traffic stop they conduct where a driver must provide a breath sample to an approved device, which confirms whether the driver is or is not impaired.  If a driver refuses to provide a sample of their breath, they can be charged with a refusal to provide a breath sample, which carry’s the same weight as an impaired.

Being charged with Impaired Provincial Sanctions comes with a loss of your drivers license, towed vehicle, various fines through Saferoads Alberta, and even installation of an approved Ignition Interlock Device in your vehicle, linked to the ignition to determine blood alcohol levels; consequences increase with subsequent offenses.

The Peace Regional RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the location of, or sightings of impaired drivers in the area and to please contact the Peace Regional RCMP at 780-624-6611 or your local police.  If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8377 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
