RCMP Corporal Pleads Guilty to Assault

A Peace Regional RCMP Corporal has pled guilty to Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

48-year-old Mark Potts stood trial on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Peace River Provincial court.

The charges came after an incident that took place on Friday, April 15, 2016, in which Corporal Potts allegedly assaulted a prisoner while transporting him from Manning to Peace River. It resulted in Potts suspension from the force in October 2016, when the charges were laid.

After his guilty plea, the judge sentenced him to 18 months of probation.

After the trial, a spokesperson for RCMP “K” Division told the Trending 55 Newsroom says that now the court case has been resolved, the RCMP will now conduct a mandatory review of Potts’ duty status, which is standard RCMP practice in this type of situation.

At this time, Potts remains suspended from the force.

Potts has been a member of the RCMP for the past 21 years.
