The Leader of her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition has named Ontario MP and former cabinet minister Lisa Raitt as his Deputy Leader, while Manitoba MP Candice Bergen will retain her post as Opposition House Leader.

As well, Grande Prairie-Mackenzie MP Chris Warkentin will retain his post as Deputy Opposition House Leader, which involves responsibilities for organization and strategy during Question Period. As well, he now becomes the Alberta Lieutenant for his party.

Warkentin, in a press release, says he’s honoured to have the leader’s confidence in his abilities.

“With my responsibilities, I will continue to defend the interests of Canadian families and taxpayers in the House of Commons with my Conservative colleagues,” said Warkentin. “I am excited to welcome the members of the team, and to work with them in their new roles.”

Also joining the Tory leadership team includes British Columbia MP Mark Strahl, who now becomes Chief Opposition Whip, one of many jobs once held by his father, former MP and cabinet minister Chuck Strahl. As well, MP Alain Rayes becomes the party’s Quebec Lieutenant.

Scheer says calls the new leadership team strong and diverse, and more than capable of holding the Liberal government accountable for their actions.

“I’m incredibly proud to be working with these capable men and women,” Scheer said. “They are all people of conviction and principle. They also represent the positive conservative vision we want to share with all Canadians.”

The former House of Commons Speaker is set to name the members of his shadow cabinet in the coming weeks.
