We are getting back into the swamp in 2026!
We got a new teaser for Shrek 5 and the internet is going wild. The big point of this trailer is to announce the cast. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz return. We also have Zendaya joining the cast as one of Shrek’s kids. This one is taking place quite a few years after the last movie since the kids have grown up. Although we probably won’t find more info until it gets closer to the date.
The trailer opens with them scrolling through the magic mirror almost like TikTok and seeing all kinds of weird Shrek memes. Some people absolutely hated this…I thought it was kind of fun. I think Shrek has always been a little weird so I feel like it fits.
Another point of contention is the animation. Many people are undecided about how they feel about the upcoming installment. It’s great to have a returning cast but the animation style is throwing some people. Some are complaining it is too cartoonish. Shrek has always been known for twisting fairytales and its animation style was part of that. Some are saying it’s going in a new direction thanks to the success of the recent Puss and Boots film. Some say, maybe this trailer isn’t the best indicator of what’s to come.
Overall I am still excited about it and am curious to see where they take the franchise. With how amazing the last Puss in Boots film was, I have faith.
