Slave Lake General Investigation Section conducts arrest following online video

Slave Lake, Alta—On May 24, 2024, Slave Lake RCMP were made aware that the rear passenger window of a pickup truck had been smashed in the parking lot of the Medicine Shoppe on Main Street. The Slave Lake RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) canvassed the neighbourhood for surveillance and witnesses. The Slave Lake RCMP GIS team was able to obtain a description of the suspect, the vehicle and the licence plate. Shortly after, Slave Lake RCMP GIS became aware of a video, which had never been given to them, circulating through social media. Thanks to the video, the suspect, who has a profound criminal record, was identified by Slave Lake RCMP GIS and subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Nevada Avery Houle (26), a resident of Slave Lake, was charged with mischief under $5000. Houle was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in High Prairie on June 10, 2024.

The Slave Lake GIS team stress the importance of witnesses and video evidence in police investigations. Though criminal investigations can be a lengthy process, in order to assure a lawful conclusion to a file, this process can be considerably shortened when witnesses and video evidence are quickly brought forth to the police.
