Slave Lake RCMP execute search warrant and charge 2 with trafficking
Slave Lake, Alta. — On Aug. 17, 2023, Slave Lake RCMP in conjunction with the Slave Lake General Investigation Section and the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in the northwest quadrant of Slave Lake as part of an investigation into drug trafficking.
As a result of the search, a significant quantity of methamphetamine, prohibited weapons and a large amount of Canadian currency were seized.
As a result of the investigation, Gordon MacDonald (35), a resident of Slave Lake, is charged with:
· Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Methamphetamine) (x2)
· Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)
· Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Heroin)
· Possession of Property obtained by Crime
· Fail to Comply with Release Order (x2)
· Possession of a Firearm, Ammunition, or Weapon while prohibited (x6)
Also as a result of the investigation, and Gregory Gerald Perron (49), a resident of Slave Lake, is charged with:
· Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Methamphetamine)
· Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine) (x2)
· Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Heroin)
· Possession of Property obtained by Crime
· Possession of a Firearm, Ammunition, or Weapon while prohibited (x4)
Both parties had judicial interim release hearings. MacDonald was remanded into custody to appear in Slave Lake at the Alberta Court of Justice on Aug. 23, 2023. Perron was released by a Justice of the Peace for court in Slave Lake on Sept. 6, 2023.
“This represents a significant seizure of drugs and weapons that have been removed from our streets.” says, Sgt. Casey Bruyns, Acting Detachment Commander of the Slave Lake RCMP. “The Slave Lake RCMP will continue to target this activity to ensure a safer community for the residents of Slave Lake.”
