Peace River School Division & Grande Prairie Catholic School Division
commit to collaborate on solution to St. Thomas More building closure

The St. Thomas More Catholic School (STM) learning community are officially without a building. Costs required to remove asbestos in the building coupled with a mandatory
increased project scope, have resulted in the need to pause the project for an indefinite amount of time. As a result, the need for a new school building in Fairview has become much more immediate.

While Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools, Peace River School Division and Northwestern Polytechnic are working towards creating a plan for the construction of new
schools in Fairview, the reality remains that a new building is at least five years away from being completed.

Since the start of the 2023-2024 school year, Northwestern Polytechnic has graciously accommodated the STM staff and students, providing them with a temporary home within the college. However, STM now requires a more long-term solution. While a plan for the 2024-2025 school year is not yet finalized, Peace River School Division has expressed a
willingness and ability to assist STM with their need for classroom space.

The Board of Trustees from both school divisions will meet during their annual joint board meeting in the new year to discuss education in Fairview.
