Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation man arrested on 37 offences

On March 2, 2022, officers of the Western Alberta District (WAD) Rural Crime Reduction Unit (RCRU), with the assistance of the Valleyview RCMP, located 24-year-old Dorian Anakian Harvey on Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, who was wanted for 28 offences that had occurred in 2020 and 2022.

Dorian Harvey was arrested for the outstanding warrants that included previous offences of armed robbery, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, and multiple counts of failing to comply with release orders. At the time of his arrest Harvey was found in possession of a loaded firearm.

Dorian Harvey is now charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Prohibited Firearm With Ammunition
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon For a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Order (x4)

Following a judicial hearing, Harvey was remanded into custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 16, 2022.

WAD RCRU’s success in locating Harvey was in part due to the assistance of the Western Alberta District Rural Crime Unit and the RCMP Police Dog Service.

“Dorian Harvey was wanted for numerous violent offences and police had concerns for the safety of the public with Harvey at large,” says Cst. John Learn of the Western Alberta District Rural Crime Unit. “We are committed to supporting the Valleyview RCMP Detachment in locating repeat violent crime offenders who remain at large so that they can be brought before the courts.”
