“Suspicious” Fires Around Grande Prairie Being Investigated

Police in Grande Prairie are investigating a series of fires that are being labeled as suspicious.

The RCMP Forestry Crimes Unit and Alberta Forestry and Parks are looking into the causes of some fires that have happened in the Grande Prairie area in the past several weeks.

– Between April 29 and May 10, 8 suspicious fires have been investigated on the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. These fires, while on the property of the Golf Course, also have direct access to the Bear Creek trail system. All fires were extinguished by the fire department and patrons of the club.
– At approximately 9:18 p.m. on May 23, a fire was detected along the trail system in South Bear Creek Park. The Alberta RCMP FCU are treating this fire as suspicious.
– At approximately 12:23 a.m. on May 31, a fire was reported on Resources Road near the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. The Alberta RCMP FCU investigated the suspicious fire and are asking for dash camera footage from May 30, at 11:00 p.m. to May 31, at 1:30 a.m.
– At approximately 12:28 a.m. on June 1, a second fire was reported on Resources Road near the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. The Alberta RCMP FCU investigated the suspicious fire and are asking for dash camera footage from May 31, at 11:00 p.m. to June 1, at 1:30 a.m.
