  1. Council meetings are happening on this Tuesday.
    Birch Hills, Clear Hills, Northern Sunrise and Northern Lights Counties, as well as the MD’s of Fairview and Peace met this morning. High Prairie meets tonight.
  2. The NorthernLink Agriculture, Sport and Trade Show is coming back this spring to kick off Trade Show season.

  3. Police are investigating the weekend death of a Maskwacis man. Mounties went to a home on Sunday where they discovered the body of Gordelle Soosay, 26.
    Later the same day, RCMP received a report of a vehicle fire that belonged to the victim.
  4. The Alberta Utilities Commission fined Avex Energy nearly $250,000 for running a natural gas-fired generator while bypassing tests for safe and unobtrusive operation.
    The utilities commission investigated noise complaints from residents of the County of Stettler, and found Avex was unlicensed.
  5. A Canadian Heritage Minute chronicling the life of a former Alberta lieutenant-governor, Norman Kwong, has been released.
    Kwong became a football star at Western Canada High School before entering the CFL, where he earned the nickname of the China Clipper.
  6. As cases of measles surge in Europe, there are calls for public health officials in Alberta to take stronger steps to prevent outbreaks.
    There are some pockets of the province where rates are far lower, including in the North Zone, which includes the Peace Region, where it’s just 67.1%.
  7. The latest figures on Alberta’s population show an increase of 194,000 people from October 2022 to October 2023, a 4.3% year-over-year increase.
    The population growth comes as some 20,000 health-care workers left the province in 2023, according to Statistics Canada.
  8. Peace River’s Annika Behnke is now back home after her medal winning efforts at the Winter Youth Olympics.

    Detroit is in Edmonton, Vancouver is in Chicago, St. Louis is in Toronto, Anaheim is in Montreal, and Columbus is in Ottawa.
  11. Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast for Northwest Alberta today. Temperatures will be pleasant in and around the freezing mark.
    Digits will get slightly cooler for the next couple of days, with skies being quite clear into the long weekend.
