- The 2024 budgets for Operating, Tax Rate impacts, Capital and Reserves will be decided upon during the meeting of Council in High Prairie.
As well, Council will have further debate the development of a communication action plan. - The Town of Peace River is telling people to be on the lookout for cougars. Uncomfirmed reports of a cougar being spotted the other night in Terrace Trailer Park and West Hill area.
This hasn’t been confirmed by wildlife officials, but people are being urged to be cautious in the area and report any other sightings. - The Town of Peace River is under a River Ice Advisory. The breakup of the ice cover on the river is expected to happen this week.
Warm weather is in the forecast and the slightly above seasonal temperatures are expected to continue the steady retreat of the Peace River ice front. - Medical students across the province came to the legislature to advocate for better support for future and current family physicians, and improved access to primary care.
Other recommendations included increasing remuneration for physicians and the number of seats in medical schools to tackle the family physician shortage. - The Alberta government will introduce legislation to prevent the federal government from cutting deals with Alberta’s municipalities without the province’s permission.
Minister of seniors, community and social services, Jason Nixon, says the province will create a policy to prohibit Ottawa from overstepping with municipalities. - Five Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight… Calgary is in San Jose, Ottawa is in Florida, Toronto is in New Jersey, Philidelphia is in Montreal, and Winnipeg is in Nashville.
- The Toronto Blue Jays continue their three-game home-opening set with Seattle tonight. Chris Bassitt starts for the Jays against George Kirby.
- The Masters Golf Tournament takes place this week in Augusta Georgia. Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor will be the three Canadians in the field.
