  1. The case against Kyra Renee Backs will begin on January 6th in Peace River and last for two and a half weeks.
    Backs is accused in the death of seven-month old Oaklan Cunningham in October of 2022.
  2. One of two men accused in the Grouard church fire last May, has pleaded guilty. Kenneth Ferguson made the plea to charges of Break and enter to commit theft.
    He and Gerald Capot were arrested after the blaze to the 102 year-old church, that caused significant damage.
  3. The Peace Energy Cooperative and the Peace River Energy Project are looking for input on investments for their upcoming projects.
    $2 million is needed by the membership base to complete the Offering Memorandum, and it’s needed by June 15.
  4. Senior’s Week is this week with a couple of events happening in town, including a social at the Chateau Nova on Friday.

  5. Provincial NDP members have begun casting their ballots to select the person to succeed leader Rachel Notley.
    Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse, Kathleen Ganley, Sarah Hoffman and Naheed Nenshi are the names on the ballot. Voting goes until June 22.
  6. The Girls Rugby team of the Peace River School Division are back home with provincial silver.
    The Peace Country Rugby Club Cougars include students from Peace River High School, Fairview High School, Paul Rowe Jr./Sr. High School in Manning, Glenmary High School and Ecole Quatre-Vents in Peace River, as well as Ecole Heritage in Falher.
  7. The Toronto Blue Jays play the second of a four-game set at home to Baltimore tonight. Trevor Richards opens for the Jays against Corbin Burnes.
  8. Rain is continuing today in the Northwest… Highs will be in the mid teens today, with lows in the high single digits.
    The weather will clear off starting tomorrow, and warm up by the weekend, maybe seeing 25 in the Peace on Saturday.
