- Members of High Prairie Town Council have been suspended from committees and bodies appointed by Council.
Councillors Sacha Martens and Judy Stenhouse until the end of 2024 for breaching sections of Council Code of Conduct. - Mother Nature has cooperated this week with rainfall, and that has put a cap on fires in the area. Small fires have popped up around the region, but the rain and crews have quickly gotten the blazes under control.
The Fire near Indian cabins is now being classified as Being Held at just over 30,000 hectares. - Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest has unveiled a new logo, marking 30 years of education in Alberta.
The launching of the new logo was released, as part of the four-year plan with the Division. - The Valleyview RCMP detachment has received a piece of history. Former Officer Al Carroll donated a 1973 Winchester Commemorative RCMP rifle to the office to be on display.
Officials say the rifle holds a special place, as 1973 was the RCMP’s centennial. - The town of Peace River is staying prepared for emergencies. A mock exercise took place earlier this week, where a truck had overturned in the community and released harmful chemicals, forcing an evacuation.
The Peace River Fire Department responded, while Council gathered and debated to implement a state of local emergency. - Farmer’s Appreciation Day is tomorrow at Mill Brown Park in Nampa.
At last report, stas indicate over 85% of the crop is in the ground for seeding season in the Northwest. - Wheatbelt Baseball League this weekend… Peace River is in Grande Prairie tomorrow.
- Week 6 of the Mighty Peace Basketball League plays on Sunday at Mile Zero in Grimshaw.
- CFL this weekend… Hamilton is in Calgary tonight. Saskatchewan is in Edmonton tomorrow. BC is in Toronto on Sunday.
- The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set in Oakland tonight. Chris Bassitt starts for the Jays against Hogan Harris.
- Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final FINALLY starts tomorrow night. Edmonton is in Florida.
- A chance of rain this weekend in the Northwest, with numbers cooling down drastically tomorrow.
Highs are quite cool in the Mackenzie, but in the mid to high teens in the Peace and Big Lakes. Skies will try and clear off, and warm up by Sunday.
