  1. The 12-hour Evacuation Alert is still in effect in the Garden River area, as fires continue to burn.
    The warm weather has not helped with firefighting efforts, as many small fires have ignited in the area.
  2. The prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are working to have more trade corridors in the north.
    The planned extension of Highway 686 is part of that and Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen says that new road could bring other benefits as well. (Interview on App)
  3. The Curling Club in Fairview has undergone repair to the roof, among others, and officials are happy the Club may be ready for this fall.

  4. Albertans used a record amount of electricity on Tuesday as temperatures climbed further past 30 C.
    Usage peaked at 11,820 megawatts, a new record in the summer months. The previous summer record was 11,721 megawatts June 29, 2021.
  5. Federated Co-op Limited says it’s aware of statements made online claiming hackers are threatening to release sensitive data stolen from the company.
    Co-op locations across western Canada were plagued by system outages over the past two weeks, leading to closures of gas bars, lack of inventory at grocery stores and other logistical issues.
  6. Movie studio Dreamworks Animation confirmed “Shrek 5” will hit the big screen on July 1, 2026 – 16 years after the previous episode was released.
    The first “Shrek” movie was a smash hit when it was released in 2001, spawning sequels “Shrek 2” in 2004, “Shrek the Third” in 2007 and “Shrek Forever After” in 2010.

  9. The Netherlands play England at the European Soccer Championships this afternoon. The winner plays Spain in Sunday’s Final.
  10. Lionel Messi and Argentina moved within one win of joining Spain as the only nations to win three straight major titles.
    Argentina extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games. The Albiceleste seek a record 16th Copa title when they play Uruguay or Colombia on Sunday.
  11. Heat warnings are still in effect in the Northwest, but today is the last day before a slight reprieve settles in.
    Highs this afternoon will be in the low 30’s, with lows in the mid teens tonight. The sunshine sticks around into the weekend, but highs will only be in the mid 20’s.
