  1. Even though we’ve been getting some rain recently, the wildfire danger is still classified as “extreme” in Northwestern Alberta.
    Equipment is being used to contain the fire from getting past highway 58, and also protecting structures in John D’or Prairie, Fox Lake and Garden River.
  2. Cool and wet weather is making a difference in Jasper National Park. The park says cooler temperatures and 15 mm of rain since midnight had led to minimal fire activity.
    The park says due to the rainfall, fire behaviour is likely to calm over the next 72 hours.
  3. Police in Fox Lake received a complaint in regards to a video posted on social media, that shows a male consuming drugs, alcohol, and discharging a firearm from a window.
    A warrant resulted in two long barrel firearms, ammunition and suspected cocaine being seized. Two people have been charged.
  4. Some municipalities in the region are forming a Regional Energy Committee to discuss possible nuclear development.
    The committee has reps from Grimshaw, County of Northern Lights, MD of Peace, Peace River, and Northern Sunrise County.
  5. People in the Village of Nampa will be dealing with some water shut-offs over the next couple of weeks.
    Work is happening on the Village’s water system and sanitary sewer system.
  6. The federal government posted a $3.9 billion deficit in the first two months of the fiscal year. The result compared to a $1.5 billion surplus for the same stretch last year. Revenues increased $6.5 billion, or 8.9 per cent, largely due to higher tax revenues.
  7. Wheatbelt Baseball League this weekend. Sunday is Game 5 of the semi-final series, Peace River is in Manning.
  8. CFL this weekend… Calgary is in Ottawa tonight. Winnipeg is in Toronto tomorrow. Hamilton is in Edmonton on Sunday.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set against Texas tonight at Roger’s Center. Yusei Kikuchi starts for the Jays against Andrew Heaney.
  10. The Opening Ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympics takes place today on the Seine River in Paris.
    Canada’s Flag bearers are sprinter Andre De Grasse and weightlifter Maude Charron.
  11. Rain is still in the forecast for Northwestern Alberta for the bulk of the day today. Add strong winds in the Big Lakes, that makes for a messy beginning to the weekend.
    Temps range from the mid teens to the low 20’s today and will be around 10 degrees tonight. Skies will clear off this weekend, rain might return on Monday.
