  1. The town of Peace River’s three-month project with APEX Security is nearing it’s end of October 15.
    APEX was hired back in July to address social disorder, public nuisances, and encampment concerns in the community.
  2. Authorities are asking hunters to stay clear of Wildfire areas, as the concern of Firefuighter safety is being questioned.
    Specifically, hunters are being spotted in the area of Fire 72, north of Rainbow Lake near the BC Border, as well as the Semo Complex Fire.
  3. Four people from John D’or Prairie have been arrested and another remains at large from a kidnapping case.
    The kidnapping victim was still in the vehicle and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
  4. A Grande Prairie man has been charged after an assault on Sunday. Police got a report of a man dragging a woman on the ground by her hair in Muskoseepi Park.
    The 44-year-old suspect faces several charges, including assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, mischief, kidnapping and assault.
  5. Businesses in the Northwest are jumping on board with the message of Being prepared.

  6. The flu and COVID-19 shots will be available starting on Oct. 15, while immunization appointments for RSV will be available starting on Oct. 21.
    New this year, Albertans 60+ who live in continuing care homes and senior supportive living accommodations will have access to all three shots.
  7. The Alberta government says opioid-related deaths are down in the province compared to 2023. The report says deaths and opioid-related responses are down over 50%.
    June 2024 saw 78 people die of overdose, a drop from 166 deaths in 2023. Substance deaths are down to 87 from 187 last year.
  8. After the Supreme Court of Canada ruled it unconstitutional last fall, Ottawa’s Impact Assessment Act could end up back before the courts.

  9. The Alberta government’s new victim services model, which was fully implemented last week, is already receiving some major backlash from municipalities in the province.
    As part of the change, four service regions have been made to match the RCMP administrative areas, along with employing support staff to ensure “continuity and equality.”
  10. Football Alberta’s rankings still have Peace River at the number 3 spot in the nine-a-side ranking.
    The Pioneers got a 24-7 win over Valleyview on the weekend. That also dropped Valleyview down one spot from 4 to 5. Both teams will have a bye this week.
  11. AJHL tonight… The Grande Prairie Storm host Devon at the Bonnett’s Energy Center.
  12. Three games in the NHL tonight… St. Louis is in Seattle, Boston is in Florida, and Chicago is in Utah.
  13. MLB playoffs tonight… Games 3, Philidelphia is New York to play the Mets, and LA is in San Diego. Each series is tied 1-1.
  14. A chance of showers this afternoon in the Peace and Big Lakes, while rain will fall throughout the day in the MacKenzie.
    Highs this afternoon will be 12 in the MacKenzie, but in the upper teens in the Peace and Big Lakes. Lows tonight will be at, or just above freezing.
    Skies will clear off, but cool down to about average at around 10 degrees for the rest of the week.
