- RCMP in Fairview continue to investigate a fatal car crash north of town. Reports indicate on Wednesday, the collision occured between a full-size pickup and a small sedan.
The driver of the car, an 82 year-old woman from Fairview was killed. The driver of the truck was not hurt. - Investigations are underway as to a residential fire at the West End Trailer Park in Peace River yesterday.
Crews were called out around lunchtime to battle the blaze. - Alberta Transport is saying that additional structural and safety issues have surfaced, thus extending the timeline of the PR Bridge project.
Construction is expected to be complete by next fall, a full three years beyond original completion dates. - The Town of Peace River will not enter into a Lease Agreement with CN Rail. CN had provided a lease option to the town for a portion of the CN-owned property, adjacent to the old Lion’s Campground on the West Side.
In the meantime, the town is looking forward to the arrival of a new Director of Protective Services to build community safety and bylaw enforcement capabilities.
This follows the expiration of the three-month contract for APEX Security, who was hired back in the summer. - The Art Hub is hosting their Gala tonight at their studios downtown, where businesses, indiviuals and community groups can enhance their decor.

The competition takes place on Saturday at the Wapiti Nordic Ski Center in Grande Prairie. - Local Football is happening this weekend… Valleyview plays in Peace River in senior High School action this afternoon. Kickoff is 4:00 at Glenmary School.
Meanwhile, High Prairie plays in Whitecourt tomorrow. As well, Peace River’s Bantam team plays tomorrow at 1:00 in Grande Prairie against the Raiders. - NWJHL tonight… La Crete is in Dawson Creek, Fairview is in Fort St. John, and North Peace is in Beaverlodge in a game that will feature Anneka Lekstrom, the first female to officiate an NWJHL game.
- NPHL this weekend… Dawson Creek is in Fort St. John and Spirit River is in Grande Prairie on Saturday to start the season.
- AEHL this weekend… The U-13’s play tonight in Grande Prairie, and tomorrow at home to FSJ. The U-15’s play tomorrow at home to Beaumont, and Sunday in FSJ. The U-18’s play tonight at home to St. Albert.
- NJHL this weekend… The High Prairie Red Wings play tonight at home to Gibbons.
- AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play tonight in Drayton Valley and tomorrow in Camrose.
