  2. Investigations are underway into a fire at an apartment complex in Peace River’s North end.
    Crews were called in the mid afternoon yesterday to the building on 77th Ave at 99th Street. At this time, no reports of injuries occured.
  3. Police officers and patrols will be out tonight hoping that everyone is following protocol with regards to having fun this Hallowe’en.

  4. The R.E. Walter Aquatic Center in High Level is remaining closed until mid-November for repairs.
    Staff is also taking advantage of the closure to complete end-of-year shutdown, instead of it happening in December.
  5. The town of Peace River has appointed Marc Boychuk as the Deputy Mayor until the end of the term next Fall.
  6. Northern Sunrise County has appointed Corinna Williams and Art Laurin as Reeve and Deputy Reeve for 2025.
  7. The Town of Falher has appointed Donna Buchinski and Lindsay Brown as Mayor and Deputy Mayor for 2025.
  8. Falher has also completed their municipal census, and the official population is pegged at 1,039 individuals.
  9. Alberta’s nurses have rejected a new collective agreement proposed by a mediator.
    In the online vote, 60.48% of locals and 38.88% of United Nurses of Alberta’s members voted to accept the mediator’s recommendation.
    A majority of locals and members was needed to ratify the agreement.
  10. Alberta is expected to table legislation concerning transgender Albertans on Thursday.
    The legislation restricts transgender youth’s access to gender-affirming health care and participation in female sports.
    Also about requiring parental consent or notification of children receiving sex education or changing their names and pronouns in schools.
  11. Three Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight. Edmonton is in Nashville, Montreal is in Washington and Seattle is in Toronto.
  12. Week 9 of the NFL season starts tonight. Houston is in New York to play the Jets.
  13. Mostly cloudy skies will be in store for the trick-or-treaters today and tonight. Highs this afternoon will be around the zero-degree mark.
    Lows tonight will be confortable, but an extra layer will be needed for the Hallowe’en costumes. There is a chance of flurries this weekend in the Peace and Big Lakes.
