- Authorities have dismantled a fentanyl superlab, just outside of Valleyview, and one person is in custody.
Industrial grade lab equipment, worth tens of thousands of dollars, was seized and since destroyed, along with processed fentanyl, chemicals and chemical waste. - Police responded to no less than three accidents on Hwy 58 between High Level and Fort Vermilion on Friday.
Due to the ever-changing weather, and possible winter burns in the area, RCMP is advising drivers to adhere to the road conditions. - Water Levels along the Peace River should be slowly returning to normal over the next few weeks. The Site C Dam, near Fort St. John, has now been completely filled up.
Water levels were down since the summer because of re-filling, and because of less-than average rainfall. - The topic of capacity in the system was raised with NDP Health Critic Sarah Hoffman making reference to the frequent emergency room closures in Fairview.
During that debate, Health Minister Adriana LaGrange made reference to the reduced wait times for surgeries in the province. (Audio Clips on App) - For the 11th year in a row, tax rates are not rising in the town of Fairview. Rates have even gone down twice in that timeframe, but it won’t in 2024.
Administration has also announced that the town is debt-free for what they believe is the first time. - Repairs and upgrades are continuing at the Fairview Aquatic Center.
Town Council was advised that the Stair upgrades are almost complete, with just some tiling needed before the slide re-opens.
Assessments are also in the works on the main HVAC unit. - The town of Valleyview is discontinuing a major part of their recycling program. As of January 1st, cardboard collection is being cancelled.
Businesses using this service have until New Year’s Eve to arrange for their own services. - Peace River Rotaract has a proposal in the works. Initials ideas were presented to the town of Peace River for a new Sub-Zero Skateway.
Rotaracts’ vision is to create a space where families, couples, can go for a skate through a winter wonderland. - Six Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight. The Islanders are in Edmonton, Calgary is in Vancouver, Winnipeg plays the Rangers, and Ottawa is in Toronto.
- In Football, Valleyview and Peace River will meet ojn Saturday at Glenmary School for a birth in the Provincial 9-a-side high school final.
Valleyview is fresh off their upset win in Drayton Valley, while Peace River received a bye after winning the Peace Division playoff. - CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie delivered his State of the CFL address this morning in Vancouver.
Toronto and Winnipeg meet in the 111th Grey Cup game Sunday in Vancouver.
This is the 8th time to two teams will meet for the Grey Cup. Toronto is 7-0 all-time, with the last game being in 2022. - Clouds with a slight chance of flurries is in the forecast for the Northwest today.
Highs this afternoon are around the Freezing mark, with lows tonight are around -8, except for -15 in the Mackenzie.
There is a good chance of seeing some snow hit the ground Wednesday night and into Thursday.
