- Jeff Thompson is now the acting Superintendent of the Peace River School Division, taking over from Adam Murray, who took a job as Superintendent in Yellowknife.
Murray was to transfer at the beginning of 2025, but started in Yellowknife last week. - The MD of Peace has appointed Erik Fuller as the Director of Operations.
Fuller will work with the Public Works Foreman and Recreation Supervisor to oversee the departments. - Tim Horton’s in the Peace region is brightening up people’s snacking.
Holiday Smile Cookies are available this week, with proceeds going to local charities. - A teenager is dead after a crash between two trucks on Highway 2 west of Athabasca Monday evening.
RCMP were called to a crash between a pickup truck and a broken-down commercial truck. - Alberta’s health minister says the province’s new hospital agency will be operational next spring, months later than expected.
Adriana LaGrange says that hospitals now run by Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health would answer to the new agency, Acute Care Alberta, once it’s running. - Canada Post and its workers’ union are entering a fresh round of negotiations as a nationwide postal strike continues.
More than 55,000 Canada Post workers went on strike Friday. Some post offices have also been shuttered, including several in the Peace and Mackenzie regions. - Canada’s annual inflation rate accelerated more than expected to 2% in October.
This as gas prices fell less than the previous month, shrinking market bets for a bigger rate cut next month. - NWJHL Three stars are out for this week.

Highs are quite varied from -6 in the Big Lakes, to -11 in the Peace to -16 in the Mackenzie. Add Wind Chill factors to that as well.
Skies will gradually clear off tonight with lows nudging -20 with risks of frostbite present.
