  1. Peace Regional RCMP have two in custody from Northern Sunrise County, after a vehicle fled from a traffic stop.
    Richard James William Frey and Cory John Zeller face numerous charges and are due in court on Monday.
  2. Peace Regional RCMP say that they have seized 14.5 grams of suspected fentanyl.
    Officers responded to a report early this morning where an unknown, suspicious substance was located at a business in Grimshaw.
  3. Police are looking for a suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation. Peace Regional RCMP say the vehicle had been stolen from Fort St. John last week.
    Dashcam footage was available and officers are looking to identify the suspect.
  4. The Northland School Division has created a group to bridge between indigenous culture and Division Schools.
    The Superintendant’s Elder and Knowledge Keeper Advisory Council will be helping to guide the Division in creating learning opportunities that reflect Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.
  5. Quite a bit of snow has been dumped on the Northwest. That means Snow Plows are out clearing that snow from roadways.
    Authorities are reminding drivers to slow down when approaching a plow, to keep a safe distance away, and to keep visibility in mind.
    It is said that you Don’t crowd the Plow!
  6. Authorities around the region are asking residents to keep the hydrants clear of snow. The rule-of-thumb is to clear a pathway of around three feet around the hydrant.
    Fire departments are saying that in an emergency, every second counts.
  7. The Brick in Peace River is celebrating Christmas cheer. The Brickley Bear campaign was underway last week, with proceeds going to the Stollary Children’s Hospital.
    Reports indicate over 300 bears were sold, and over $6,000 was raised during the campaign.
  8. Ski Hills in the Peace Region are setting up dates to open up for the season. Whispering Pines Ski Hill in Worsley is already open.
    The Fairview Ski Hill is slating to open this weekend, while the Manning Ski Hill and Misery Mountain in Peace River are planning for just after Christmas.
    No word yet on an opening date the Little Smoky Ski Area near New Fish Creek.
  9. The new SubZero Skateway has it’s official opening tonight from 6-7 at the Norman Boucher Arboretum, across from the Baytex Energy Center.
    Enjoy hot chocolate, a bonfire, Christmas Carols, the lights, and Santa Claus will be there as well.
  10. NWJHL tonight… North Peace is in Fairview, and Sexsmith is in Beaverlodge. La Crete plays two on the road, starting tomorrow.
  11. NPHL tonight… High Prairie is in Manning and Valleyview is in Grande Prairie.
    Tomorrow, Fox Creek is in High Prairie, Spirit River is in Falher, and Grande Prairie is in Dawson Creek.
  12. AEHL this weekend… The U-13’s play tonight in Falher, the U-15’s play tonight at home against GP, the U-18’s play tonight in GP.
  13. NJHL this weekend… The High Prairie Red Wings play tonight at home to Claresholm, tomorrow in Edson, and Sunday in Gibbons.
  14. AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play tonight in Calgary, tomorrow in Canmore, and Sunday back in Calgary.
  15. The snow will stop this afternoon in the Northwest, and the temperature will fall slightly, but after that, things will be comfortable.
    Skies will clear off and stay in the negative teens until tomorrow. Then, numbers warm up even further to the point it goes above zero on Monday in the Big Lakes.
    Mostly clear skies are expected for Santa’s trek around the Northwest, Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
