  1. The town of Falher and BMO are still against each other at having the BMO branch close.
    Representatives of each side met last week, but little progress was made in an effort to keep the branch open.
  2. At a recent Council meeting, The Village of Berwyn approved the purchase of a new John Deere Skid Steer 324G with the snow bucket attachment, was granted.
    Council also approved the purchase of new technology equipment for the office.
  3. The MD of Fairview is welcoming a new Chief Administrative Officer. Tim Schindel has accepted the position, after spending nearly 3 1/2 decades in the finance industry.
    Schindel has also spent a decade and a half as Councillor in the town.
  4. The Town of Peace River’s Land-use Refresh Open House takes place this afternoon, with lots of information to take in.
    Reviews, observances, and feedback from the public are all encouraged at the event, which takes place from 4-6 at the Council Chambers.
  5. Alberta’s annual inflation rate for January now sits at 2.5%, compared to the same time last year, which ranks second in the country behind Manitoba at 2.7%.
    Canada’s annual inflation rate ticked back up in January to 1.9%.
  6. Alberta egg farmers are concerned over comments made by Premier Danielle Smith this past weekend.
    Smith has asked the Ag. minister to start a conversation on possible concessions for what she called U.S. President Donald Trump’s irritation with Canada’s supply management system.
  7. The Scotties Tournament of Hearts continues today in Thunder Bay.
    Nampa’s Kayla Skrlik, who is 4-2 at the tournament, is in action tonight facing Jane DiCarlo of PEI.
  8. Schedules are out for the next round of playoffs in the NWJHL and NPHL.
    In the NWJHL, Dawson Creek plays in FSJ, starting on Friday, Beaverlodge plays in La Crete, starting on Saturday.
    In the NPHL, Falher is in Dawson Creek, starting on Friday, and Spirit River plays in Manning, starting on Saturday.
  9. Highs this afternoon under mostly clear skies will be in the negative teens, and will remain steady overnight tonight.
    However, some light snow will fall in the Mackenzie tonight and continue into tomorrow.
    Also, the wind will pick up in the Peace and Big Lakes, but highs will start to be pushing zero, and won’t create the dangerous windchills we’ve been experiencing.
