- No damages have been reported from the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that shook parts of Northwestern Alberta.
It happened just before 9 AM yesterday about 93 km southeast of Grande Prairie, tremors were felt near High Prairie, Whitecourt and as far away as Prince George, BC. - A Wanted Wednesday suspect has been apprehended by Peace Regional RCMP.
32 year-old Dwayne Gabriel Sawan was at large on seven warrants, including uttering threats, assault, assault with a weapon and four counts of failure to attend.
Sawan was captured on Wednesday, and is due in court in early March. - Energy Alberta is holding an Open House to introduce the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
The event is Tuesday March 11th from 4-8 at the Weberville Community Hall.
Residents can meet the team, talk to industry experts and to share ideas and thoughts regarding the project. - A planning committee in Berwyn is continuing to provide updates on bringing back the Berwyn Fiesta.
Wayne Larson, the vice-president of the committee says plenty of events are in the works, like children’s games, family-friendly entertainment, a car show, brisket on a bun, beer gardens, a smoke-off, and live music. - The 10th annual Frostival is happening tomorrow in High Level. - Hot Doggin’ Friday takes place this afternoon and evening at Misery Mountain Ski Resort in Peace River.
Free hot dogs are available with the purchase of lift tickets and rental purchase, as well as for season pass holders. FuelCo is sponsoring the evening. - The playoff round starts today at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay. Nampa’s Kayla Skrlik will face Kerri Einarson in one of the Page 1-2 qualifier draws.
The other matchup has Rachel Homan against Christina Black of Nova Scotia.
The winners will advance to the Page 1-2 game tomorrow, the losers will have to go through the 3-4 qualifier tonight against either Danielle Inglis of Ontario or Corryn Brown of BC. - NWJHL playoffs tonight… Dawson Creek is in FSJ. Beaverlodge and La Crete play tomorrow.
- NPHL playoffs tonight… Falher is in Dawson Creek. Spirit River is in Manning tomorrow.
- AEHL this weekend… The U-13’s are off. The U-15’s play tonight in Grande Prairie, and tomorrow in Peace River. The U-18’s play tomorrow in Grande Prairie and Sunday in Peace River.
- NJHL this weekend… The High Prairie Red Wings play tonight at home to Lac La Biche and tomorrow in Gibbons.
- AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play tonight in Camrose , and tomorrow and Sunday in Drumheller.
- Warmer temperatures, but still a chance of precipitation lingers in the Northwest, heading into this weekend.
Highs in the Peace and Big Lakes will be above zero this afternoon, except for -7 in the Mackenzie.
Lows tonight are varied between -5 and -15, but the above season digits stick around, well into next week.
