  1. US Tariffs are expected to be implemented on goods from Canada and Mexico, starting today.
    President Donald Trump says that 25% across-the-board tariffs on imports, plus a 10% levy on Canadian energy, will be in effect.
    Ottawa has already planned for counter-tariffs on US products initially, with higher fees scheduled for later this month.
  2. A reforestation company, based in Quesnel BC, has been found not guilty of a fatal workplace accident in the Mackenzie region.
    The verdict stems from an incident in July of 2020, where a tree planter was struck and fatally injured by a falling tree.
  3. Just a few days after Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair voiced his concerns with the tabled Provincial Budget, some elected officials are beginning to join in.
    Big Lakes County Reeve Tyler Airth has sent a letter to Premier Danielle Smith, expressing support for Sinclair.
    In the meantime, even the Provincial NDP is echoing two UCP MLA’s, including Sinclair, about the Budget, that faces a $5.2 Billion Dollar deficit this year.

    Administration is asking residents to provide assessors with necessary information to ensure accuracy of the assessment.
  5. The Alberta government has hired a former head of Manitoba’s provincial court to investigate allegations of high-level arm-twisting in lucrative government contracts.
  6. A memorial service was held in Mayerthorpe, on Monday, 20 years after four RCMP members were killed in the line of duty.
  7. Even though warmer temperatures have hit the region in recent weeks, officials are saying the Hockey portion of the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships is still a GO this weekend.
    Organizer Dave Allen says digits are still freezing at night, and the ice continues to set up, however only dry scrapes may occur with the zambonis.
  8. NPHL Playoffs tonight… Game 5 Spirit River is in Manning, the series is tied at two wins each.
  9. Three Canadian teams hit the ice tonight in the NHL… Anaheim is in Edmonton, Calgary is in Philidelphia and Winnipeg plays at the Islanders.
  10. Sunshine is the order of this week in the Northwest, with highs being in the single digits this afternoon.
    Lows at night will still be chilly, of between -10 and -15. Mostly clear skies are in store until the weekend.
