  1. Police in the area are on the hunt for Jerry Ivor D’Or. He’s wanted for activities in Mackenzie County, Garden River, Bushe River and John D’Or Prairie.
    His last known location was in John D’Or Prairie, and authorities are saying to not approach, just call 911.
  2. Trial dates have been reset for a High Prairie woman in connection in the death of a seven-month-old boy in October of 2022.
    The case against Kyra Renee Backs has be put over, and will start March 17th in Peace River.
  3. The Canada-US trade war has taken another turn with more pausing of Tariffs until April 2nd.
    The pause is on some Canadian goods, but the US says the levy pause applies only to Canadian exports that are compliant with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement.
  4. The Alberta College of Family Physicians is recognizing a Peace River Doctor.
    Dr. Robert Greidanus is named as the 2024 Family Physician of the Year, by the organization. Greidanus has practiced full-scope Family Medicine in town since 1996.
  5. Emergency personnel, plus additional resources, frequently participate in Mock Emergency Exercises to get prepared hands-on.
    The latest one was in Northern Sunrise County, where an exercise, partaking in a winter ice storm, was carried out. (Dave LeBlanc interview in separate story)
  6. Spring is right around the corner, and residents will take advantage of more daylight hours, starting this weekend.
    Daylight Savings Time comes back into effect, early Sunday morning. That means your phones will adjust the time, going an hour forward, thus everyone losing sleep.
  7. The weekend for the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships is finally here.
    The entertainment director for the event, Dano Laflamme, says this event draws visitors from a number of areas to the Peace Region. (Interview in separate story)
  8. NWJHL playoffs this weekend… Saturday, Game 6 – Beaverlodge is in La Crete, the Lumber barons lead 3-2. Game 7, if necessary, is Sunday in La Crete.
  9. NPHL playoffs tonight… Game 7 – Spirit River is in Manning. – The winner plays Falher in the final.
  10. AEHL playoffs this weekend… The U-13’s play in Fort McMurray this weekend. The U-15’s are finished for the season. The U-18’s play in Whitecourt this weekend.
  11. NJHL playoffs this weekend…The High Prairie Red Wings play Lac La Biche in the quarter-finals.
    Game 1 is tonight in Lac La Biche, Game 2 is tomorrow in High Prairie, Game 3 is Sunday in Lac La Biche.
  12. AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play at home tonight and tomorrow against Fort McMurray.
  13. Today and tomorrow will be nice in the Northwest, but Sunday will cool off, and have a good chance of seeing some snow fall.
    Digits will be above zero for the two days, except for the Mackenzie where the snow and the temps will fall on Saturday.
    Sunday will see more cloud cover, some snow in the Big Lakes, and numbers below zero, which will continue into next week.
