  1. The hearing to set dates for the trial in the case against Kyra Renee Backs, has been delayed until after the May-long weekend.
    Backs is accused in the death of a seven-month old boy in High Prairie in October of 2022.
  2. CSNO has adopted their Capital plan with three priorities, a new school in Grande Prairie, a new program in Slave Lake, and a study for a program in High Level.
    The 2026 School calendars have been adopted for L’Ecole Nouvelle Frontiere in Grande Prairie and L’Ecole Quatre-Vents in Peace River.
  3. The SARDA Ag Research Agriculture Tradeshow kicks off today at the Regional Complex in Falher, featuring over 100 exhibits from across the region.
    The sold-out event is free to attend, with a pancake breakfast scheduled for Saturday morning at the Curling Rink.
  4. A Celebration Concert is happening on Saturday June 7th at the Agriculture Grounds in High Level.
    The headliner is Gord Bamford, with special guests Mariya Stokes and Hey! Driver.
  5. A Peaceful Prayer Rally is being held at Riverfront Park, Peace River tomorrow afternoon.
    Organizers say the gathering is meant to promote justice and solidarity in support of the Philippines’ former President, who they believe has been unjustly detained.
  6. Alberta’s government is looking to regulate private online gambling websites and apps in a move it says will capture lost revenue and protect bettors.
    The new legislation would see the province create a new Crown corporation to set rules for online casinos and safeguards for users.
  7. Peace River is welcoming the province for a weekend of hockey action. The U-18C Provincial championships get underway today at the Baytex Energy Center.
    Teams from Mayerthorpe, Sherwood Park, New Sarepta, Valleyview, Calgary, Devon, and Barrhead will join the Peace River Stampeders in the tournament.
    Action gets underway this afternoon at 4:30, with a champion crowned on Sunday.
  8. Hockey Alberta has cancelled the Senior AA Provincials that was supposed to be in Lethbridge next week.
    The reason cited was a lack of commitment from the teams and leagues that were invited.
    The NPHL had stated at the start of the season that they would take part in provincials, the Falher Pirates were the league champions.
  9. Five Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight, as part of a 10-game schedule.
    Edmonton is in Seattle, Dallas is in Calgary, Toronto is in San Jose, Montreal is in Philidelphia, and Ottawa is in Detroit.
  10. Today is opening day for the North American portion of Major League Baseball.
    The Toronto Blue Jays start the season with a four-game set against Baltimore at Roger’s Centre. Jose Berrios starts for the Jays against Zach Eflin.
  11. A chance of flurries is forecasted for the Peace and Mackenzie today. But the Big Lakes is still getting winter with around 5 cm of snow hitting the ground.
    Add to that, the wind will be up, and with the temps still below zero. that could be uncomfortable. Digits will warm up to be as high as 11 in the Peace on Monday.
