  1. Alberta Major Crimes have taken carriage of the investigation into a homicide in Carcajou.
    The body of 38 year-old Nathan Loonskin of Paddle Prairie, was discovered in a vehicle in mid-March.
  2. High Prairie RCMP have two in custody, and are looking for a third suspect involved in numerous B&E’s in the area.
    The latest was an incident at I&P Mechanics in mid-March. Surveillance cameras identified and led to the arrest of two people. The unidentified third suspect, is still at large.
  3. The weather is getting warmer, and ice on waterways like the Peace River, and Lesser Slave Lake is getting thin.
    That means structures like ice-fishing shacks being removed, as well as being careful, if not staying off the ice is paramount. (Luci Martinson Interview in separate story)
  4. Health care continues to be a major source of debate in the provincial legislature.
    During a debate with the Health Minister on recruitment and retention, NDP MLA Sarah Hoffman made reference to some concerns in our region.
  5. Changes to the auto insurance system could soon be happening in Alberta.
    Nate Horner, the province’s finance minister, says the changes they’re looking to make will lead to lower automobile insurance rates. (Interview ion separate story)
  6. The U-18C Provincial hockey championships are continuing at the Baytex Energy Center in Peace River. A champion crowned on Sunday.
  7. The NWJHL will crown a 2025 champion this weekend… FSJ is in La Crete for Game 6 tomorrow, and Game 7, if necessary on Sunday.
  8. Three Canadian teams hit the ice in a 6-game NHL schedule tonight… Vancouver is in Columbus, New Jersey is in Winnipeg, and Montreal is in Carolina.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their four-game weekend set against Baltimore tonight. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Charlie Morton.
  10. Lots of sunshine for this weekend in the Peace and Mackenzie. The Big Lakes will still see a little snow today, but will clear out this weekend.
    Highs will still stay below zero for today and tomorrow, but will get above the freezing mark on Sunday.
    Temps will gradually get a little warmer and stay above zero, into next week.
