  1. Ice Advisories are continuing along the Peace River near the town. Water is starting to be visible in sections, as Break-up is pending.
    However at this time, there is no Flood risk from either the Peace River, or the Heart River around town.
    As a footnote, 12-foot Davis Park near the Heart River in Peace River is still closed at this time, because of ice in the park.
  2. Authorities in Grande Prairie were busy in February conducting arrests on multiple drug-related instances.
    In all, eight people were brought into custody, including a 41 year-old man from Crooked Creek, and a 44 year-old woman from Peace River.
  3. Alberta is investing $6.9 million to improve Indigenous policing in the Lesser Slave Lake area.
    The money will be used to expand the detachment of the Lakeshore Regional Police Service, which serves five First Nations.
  4. Health officials are gaining the upper-hand on the Measles outbreak in Northwestern Alberta.
    The Little Red River Cree Nation says that over 700 vaccinations have been administered, and there are now zero active cases.
  5. The Northland School Division is moving ahead in preparation for the 2026 school year.
    At a recent Board Meeting, the purchase of four 64-seat school busses has been approved. The board also supports new dual-credit courses for high school students.
    The calendar for the 2026 school year has also been approved.
  6. Premier Danielle Smith is weighing in on the latest round of Tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.
    Smith says that the US has upheld the majority of the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the USA.
  7. The province is committing $8.5 million to help rural Albertans access essential services like gas, electricity and water.
    The funding will go to the Rural Utilities Program to help communities access the services to keep lights on, homes warm and businesses in operation.
  8. The Provincial Women’s Club Curling Championships continue in Okotoks. Charlene Swicheniuk of Peace River plays the North Hill #2 club of Calgary this afternoon.
    Swicheniuk stole one in an extra end to beat Airdrie yesterday.
  9. Five Canadian teams are in action in a nine-game NHL schedule tonight.
    Edmonton is in San Jose, Anaheim is in Calgary, Boston is in Montreal, Winnipeg is in Las Vegas, and Tampa Bay is in Ottawa.
  10. Canada is now ranked 30th in the latest FIFA rankings.
    Canada moved up, thanks to a 2-1 win over the USA, and a 2-0 loss to Mexico in CONCACAF Nations League Finals play. This is the best-ever ranking for Canadian soccer.
  11. Today is the last of the cool days this week in the Northwest, but the sun is continuing to shine. Highs this afternoon are just above zero, with lows tonight around -12.
    Tomorrow sees a significant jump in the digits with highs in the teens, and staying that way, well into next week.
