  1. Peace Regional Police are looking to identify a person looking to steal a truck in town.
    Yesterday morning, a truck pulled up near the driveway of a 99th St. residence, where the passenger came out and attempted to steal the truck.
  2. Early last week, RCMP received a report of a person sleeping inside a vehicle on Highway 986.
    The man passed an alcohol screening test, but right after officers left the scene, he began driving erratically.
    Police were able to find him again and discovered a firearm and suspected cocaine and methamphetamine in his vehicle.
  3. The Peace River School Division got plenty of feedback from residents at a special meeting, that discussed the feasibility and sustainability of the Dixonville facility.
    The Board wanted to hear from the public, since the opportunity wasn’t present a few years ago in Nampa. (Crystal Owens Interview in separate story)
  4. Ice Advisories are continuing along the Peace River near the town. Water is becoming more visible in sections, as Break-up carries on.
    However at this time, there is no Flood risk, as temperatures are expected to sharply rise today and will continue to rise throughout the weekend.
    As a footnote, 12-foot Davis Park near the Heart River is still closed at this time, because of ice.
  5. The premier of Alberta wasn’t celebrating yesterday, a day after the province largely dodged getting hit by any new tariffs.
    Danielle Smith says there is still work to be done across Canada to eliminate the remaining tariffs and support affected workers.
  6. The Provincial Women’s Club Curling Championships are continuing in Okotoks.
    Charlene Swicheniuk of Peace River plays this morning against the Westridge club from Stony Plain.
    Swicheniuk also plays tonight against the Thistle #2 team from Edmonton.
    Swicheniuk is 1-1 in the tournament, after a 7-2 loss last night to the North Hill #2 club from Calgary.
  7. AJHL Playoffs this weekend… Grande Prairie is in Whitecourt for Game 1 tonight, and Game 2 tomorrow.
  8. Three games in the NHL tonight… Carolina is in Detroit, Chicago is in Washington, and Minnesota plays at the Islanders.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays begin a three-game weekend set in New York against the Mets tonight. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Tylor Megill.
  10. Sunshine and double-digit temperatures are expected in the Peace and Big Lakes today and this weekend. Z
    The Mackenzie will also see sunshine, with numbers near 10 degrees.
    Lows at night will start getting warmer as well, and will not get below freezing, starting on Sunday night. Warmest day looks like Sunday with 19 possibly in the Peace.
