  1. Two people are in custody on weapons, stolen property, and dangerous driving charges.
    The suspects, 39 year-old Christian Singer of Keg River, and 42 year-old Kristin Letendre of Loon Lake, were arrested in the Hines Creek area.
  2. The town of Peace River is receiving $30,000 in Grant Money from the Provincial Government to conduct a policing study, regarding crime, vagrancy, addiction, and homelessness.
    Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis met with municipal and Provincial elected officials to determine the best way to approach these issues, and the study itself.
  3. The Ice Advisory has ended near Peace River… The waterway has had thermal break-up occur and is continuing downstream.
    Temperatures have risen significantly in the past number of days, making break-up easy, however break-up is still occuring, even with low water levels right now.
  4. Fairview Council approved a donation of $10,000 per year, for the next three years for the Ken Seargent House for patients and their families of the GP Regional Hospital.
    Council will approve the budgets this month, which will see a 7% increase in taxes, because of the Education Property Tax from the Provincial Government.
    The town has also received Grant money of nearly $900,000 for rehab of the Treated Water Reservoir.
  5. The federal government is rolling out a new Canada Disability Benefit this summer, but qualified recipients in Alberta won’t see the extra money if they already receive payments under AISH.
    This move has drawn a lot of controversy and NDP Critic Marie Renaud says she’ll be pushing back against this both inside and outside of the legislature. (Interview in separate story)
  6. Residents in Northern Sunrise County can discuss the latest with elected officials tonight. The annual Residents Meeting takes place, 6:30 at McKinney Hall.
    Accomplishments in 2024, Strategic Planning and Budgets for 2025 will be discussed.
  7. AJHL tonight… The playoff battle of Hwy 43 continues tonight. Game 3 – Whitecourt is in Grande Prairie, with the Storm up 2-0.
  8. Five games in the NHL tonight… Edmonton is in Anaheim, Calgary is in San Jose, St. Louis is in Winnipeg, Tampa Bay plays at the Rangers, and Seattle is in LA.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays begin a four-game set tonight at Fenway in Boston. Easton Lucas starts for the Jays against Richard Fitts.
    The Jays come in, fresh of the signing of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for 14 years, and $500 million dollars.
  10. Sunshine and mild temperatures are in the forecast for the Northwest for this afternoon, and for a good chunk of this week.
    Digits are in the low to mid teens this afternoon, and will stay that way, with lows at night being at or just below zero.
    The Big Lakes will see 5-10 mm of rain tonight, but things will clear off for tomorrow.
